Case Study:

Rehome Medical Equipment

The Project

Create an app and responsive website dedicated to social good.

The Process

Solo UX designer and researcher from conception to delivery. Conducted interviews, made digital wireframes, created low and high fidelity prototypes, conducted usability studies, accounted for accessibility, and iterated on designs.

The Problem

Users of this site tend to be older and have a need for more accommodations. They need a site that is highly accessible and simple. The other users, therapists, need to have access to the content from iPads or phones when they are doing home health and are away from their desktops.

The Goal

Accessibility was the highest priority for this site. The goal was to make it an easy and simple site to use despite having a lot of content. The other goal was to have an app version so that stored data from the site could be accessed without internet.

What I learned

I found it helpful to design a responsive website as making a phone and iPad version uncovered gaps and problems that the website version did not. I also learned a lot about applying accessibility best practices into my designs. Often the designs that are popular and/or are visually appealing are not always the most accessible.

What would make it better

I would like to do a research study on whether people actually download apps to purchase items or if they are more likely to just use the website version. Depending on the results I would like to format the app so that it is more tailored to therapists (i.e., more emphasis on training videos rather than on product).
